Fed: PM's office spied on ethanol company: Claim
A company that was trying to import cheap ethanol just before the federal governmentslapped $5 million worth of tax on the product says the prime minister's office spiedon it.
Trafigura Fuels chief BARRIE JACOBSON has told ABC radio Australian embassy officialsrang his company up to four times a day as it prepared to import the ethanol.
But the government slapped excise on imported ethanol as the Brazilian shipment forTrafigura was on the water, making it $5 million more expensive.
The allegation comes as Australia's biggest manufacturer of ethanol, the Manildra Group,accused Labor of costing the company 50 jobs at its Victorian plant.
Labor's charged that Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD misled parliament over a meeting hehad with Manildra owner and Liberal Party donor, DICK HONAN, on August the 1st last year.
